weekend update

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Yeah, I’ve been MIA lately. I haven’t had much desire to post anything interesting for quite some time. Maybe the lack of sunshine is leading to some seasonal depression or something. ;)

I finally had the urge tonight so here’s an update:

Yesterday, I left work early to attend AaronF’s going away party. MindTouch is relocating to San Diego so AaronF and his family are moving this week. It was fun to get together with some old friends. We went to Loring Pasta Bar which was a very eclectic and cool place! The food and conversation was great. Afterwards I headed over to Mare’s and got ready for a Saturday of work volunteering.

Mare, her roommate (Jen), a few of Jen’s coworkers, and I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity today. It was such a great time! We worked at a location in Minneapolis on Glenwood and Queen Ane near where I’ve played kickball and routinely pass when riding my bike over to Mare’s place. Now, honestly, I’m absolutely terrible when it comes to this kind of thing. I love a hard day’s work but I’m hopeless at working a saw, measuring, putting things together, etc. Thankfully I ended up working with someone with a lot of patience who was willing to teach me! I spent the day putting together a window and building some awning’s out of cedar 4×4’s that would be hung over doors. I learned how to build a jig and had fun running the chop-saw all day. It was pretty cold working outside on a concrete slab but we all had fun and I enjoyed doing some volunteer work.

When the day was over we retired back to Mare’s place and took a nice nap. I then managed to plug the toilet and went on a run to Target with Mare to buy a plunger and for her to buy some stuff for her trip out to Pheonix tomorrow. hehehehe, yes, I plugged the toilet…and not with toilet paper. :)

I spent the rest of the night hanging out with Mare and migrating wikis from wiki.com to wik.is….more on that in a future post!

Tomorrow should be cool. I’m running the screens at church way too early tomorrow morning. Then I’m headed to play broomball at 2pm. We played last week and my knees and groins have just about recovered from the abuse so it’s time to destroy them again. Broomball is just so much fun…I always feel like I’ve just finished a nice skate (rollerblading) session with Shane and Bader in Fargo back in the day. Getting beat up is so much fun.

I’m excited for the events of the next couple of months. Next weekend Mr. M is coming to town and I’m hitching a ride to Aitken to go ice fishing with him and Joey (old MS buddy from fargo who works for MS consulting these days). Mr M is flying in Thursday night and we’re going up north to spend a weekend in a fish house without running water or electricity. What could be better than that!?

The following weekend Mare and I are head up home to visit my family. I haven’t been home since July so it will be great to get home to visit my parents, grandparents, and my “third grandmother”/neighbor. My bro has a bball tournament that weekend so I’ll get to watch him play! He’ll be coming to college in the Twin Cities next fall so it’ll be great to see him more frequently.

The last weekend in February, I’m going out to Colorado with some friends to go skiing. One of “the boys” knows someone who owns/manages a hotel so we are paying $50 TOTAL for 3 nights of lodging. Yeah….that comes out to $3.33 per person per night. Can’t complain about that! I’ve only been skiing in the mountains once (at Red Lodge, MT, with the Fargo crew) so I’m super excited about that!

Other fun events of the past month…

* new years with Tristan and Sarah! Sooooo good to chill with them again! Makes me want to move back to Fargo to see them more often!
* my sister’s 30th birthday last week! I like giving her a hard time about being so old…
* me buying a “trainer” for my bike so I can ride inside to train for the Fargo Half Marathon. How can I possibly run 13 miles when 7mi is the most I’ve EVER run!?
* Dave coming to visit over New years and taking him to a couple of comedy shows in Mpls.
* thinking seriously about some major life changes (buying a house, getting married, settling down, etc)…not easy decisions to make!

All in all, I’m excited for what the new year has in store. It will be a year to remember, that’s for sure!
