things always break on Saturday

We had a power outage at work on Saturday that wreaked havoc with my IT systems. I’ve been kicking myself for hours for not getting everything up on a decent UPS. We have a couple of really small battery backups but they’re old and the batteries are poor so I never hooked them up. As it turns out, I suffered for it this weekend.

I got a text @ approx 11:00am Saturday morning. Of course, thanks to my crappy Sprint service, I was unable to connect to the web to see my message. (side note: I _hate_ that I have to connect to the web to check a stupid text message with my sprint phone. Why can’t they just deliver it directly to the phone!? ahhh!). About an hour later, I got a call…err…a voicemail, because my stupid phone didn’t even ring…saying that everything at work was down. It seemed impossible to me that _everything_ was down but I figured I needed to check it out.

When I got the message, I was hanging out with my brothers. We hit up a skate shop off 26th & hennepin to get him a new deck for his board. Then we walked to the lakes and hit up Chipotle. Thankfully we were on our way home when I got hte message, so I ran into work.

It turns out everything was down, even the phone system! I tried resetting the phone switch but the “DB Error” LED was on….oh no! I dug out the manual only to find out that that LED meant the database was corrupted and the system had defaulted…which meant I needed to restore from a backup. hmmm….backup….yeah…I guess we have on of those from about 7 months ago. Doh! I got most everything reprogrammed and went home.

I’m back in the office now (Sunday afternoon) finishing up…yeah, my new backup just finished….

Anyway, the weekend was a blast. Friday night, I met up with my _enter_ family and my aunt, uncle, and their two kids. We went to Culvers (hey, what can I say, we’ve got an expensive taste in restaurants..hehehe) and celebrated my sister’s birthday. Last night, I went to a Twins game with my brothers. We cabbed it there (tried and failed to take the bus) and back which was fun since Andy had never taken a cab. The Twins lost 8-4 but we had pretty good tickets and the game was pretty exciting.

We all met up at church this morning and then went out the eat afterwards. Then everyone parted ways home.

Well, time to go…I need reboot a couple of servers and plug them into those stupid battery backups. /still kicking myself
