Gender Inequality
Wednesday, January 19th, 2005A story from a conference at Harvard Univeristy sparked some controversy yesterday. The speaker made mention of a hypothesis that women lack natural ability in some fields such as science and math. This apparently caused an uproar and ticked a lot of people off. Now, while I don’t consider myself to be a macho, shovenist pig, I do think there are certain skills that females are “naturally” better at than men, and vice versa.
Case in point….Karaoke: For some reason, when two beautiful women go on stage and sing (well, sing isn’t really the right adjective here…more like utter 4-5 words and fill in the blanks by grinding on each other) an absolutely horrible rendition of Sir Mix-a-lot’s classic “Baby Got Back” everyone cheers! If two guys got on stage and performed the same act, they’d get pummeled in the alley immediately afterwards…and rightfully so!
See, I’m not sexist, just pragmatic.
