cluetrain manifesto
I was listening to the G’day World skypecast/podcast with special guest Doc Searls. I knew of Doc Searls from his role as editor of Linux Journal. However, I didn’t know much more about him. During the podcast, he mentioned a book he (and others) wrote back in ‘99 called The Cluetrain Manifesto. The book looks absolutely fascinating and challenges the traditional behavior of markets and specifically, how the internet is creating “networked markets” with far greater reach, knowledge, and expertise than any traditional market. The entire text of the book is available on the site. I’d recommend reading the 95 Theses to get a flavor for what this is all about. I’m headed to BN to see if I can get a paper copy after work.
Since I’ve recently started reading/posting to blogs, this concept of a “Networked Market” makes more sense to me. For example, it would have been great to attend the CES conference this year but I don’t have the money or time to attend. Thankfully, the nerds over at Engadget captured and distilled more info than I could ever use. Best of all, I got reviews from “real people” who said something sucked if it sucked. Not marketing doublespeak with 300 words ending ‘ity: flexibility, saleability, usability, customizability, constructronicatorafabulousity. I will trust this honest (though often extremely incomplete) information from a blogger over some marketing mumbo-jumbo from the sales/marketing/PR dept. ANY DAY!
Man, this stuff makes my head spin sometimes. Life at Internet speed is _way_ too fast for me…what will life be like in 10 years? Speaking of which, Mahblerg, how are the plans for the compound in the mountains coming along????

Well - I found some mountains…that was the first part of it. Now we need to pick a spot with good water, fertile soil, game for the killin’ and a reasonable climate. Now on to fundage…still lacking a bit there.
Btw, I find it quite humorous what you wrote about the marketing ‘mumbo-jumbo’ - hehehe, I can just envision you as an old man, all crotchety and being, like curmudgeonly. LoL!!!
